Royal Monaco – Interview with Magdalena Gabriel.

Royal Monaco – Interview with Magdalena Gabriel.

Hotshot Lawyer turned Art-Preneur pinpoints Monaco as the new art market Mecca.

As the cliché goes, there is no time quite like the present. The older and the wiser we become, clichés oft ring true….With the art world currently at tipping point, the time to spin the global art world on its head, is in fact right now.

This month, we have had the privilege of meeting a fascinating resident of Monaco to discuss recent projects she has been working on. With extraordinary connections, our guest is a lawyer turned art consultant, curator and philanthropist who was in fact recently nominated to be an Ambassador for the Woman of the Year Monaco. At just 32, Magdalena Gabriel, is a prominent fixture on the global art scene. With an education that spans the globe, including The London School of Economics and the University of Beijing, Gabriel’s infectious dynamism and innate passion for modern art have propelled her career and lifestyle beyond her wildest dreams. Often travelling across continents for her private clients, Ms Gabriel is loyal, devoted and diligent with a palpable curiosity for that life throws her way. Her relentless strive for perfection - while maintaining the utmost discretion in all of her endeavours - is something to be admired. Now at the pinnacle of her career with some of the worlds biggest names in art on speed dial, Gabriel who splits her time between Monaco and London is a face to watch.

A supporter of the Monaco Charity Film Festival, Magdalena organised the Gilbert Chagoury couture show in 2012 held at the Villa and Jardins Ephruss de Rothschild in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat. Chagoury is one of the worlds most respected fashion designers and the show was greatly received. Effortlessly level-headed with a fabulous sense of style and glamour, Gabriel is a notable art aficionada in her own right.

Succeeding in the art world is notoriously tricky to circumnavigate and her successes to date, are admirable. Anything but easily impressionable and always stepping with caution, she is trusted by some of the world’s elite, including Damien Hirst, Stephen Hung, AiWeiWei, Ira von Furstenberg, Tamara Beckwith, and Hollywood royalty, international sports players and worldwide collectors who wish to be anonymous.

Magdalena is blessed with an almost spiritual talent for placing herself at the pulse of the art world, spotting emerging mid-career artists. However, it is her self-taught, inherently creative skill of discretion, which has secured her as a powerful fixture in the often fickle world of contemporary fine art. It is this confidence of knowledge and mindfulness that gives her the space to realise where the gaps in the market might lie. Monaco according to Gabriel has become too comfortable in its position as the hub for the secondary art market; she feels passionate in the knowledge and awareness that the time has now arrived for manoeuvring Monaco out of this position and up a gear, moving it to primary role, strong in its stance amidst the current art kings of London, New York and Hong Kong.

Early on in her art career, she worked with the eminent Damien Hirst at his studio in the UK where she fully immersed herself in the process of creating “Spin Paintings”, an hands-on privilege with the most influential name in art this century. She swiftly changed the course of her law training and art ultimately took precedence, pushing her to take the “Art Business Course” at Christie’s in London. Gabriel is an active member and patron in the contemporary arts, holding non-profit memberships and positions on the committees of highly influential galleries. These include London’s world famous Serpentine Gallery and the Tate Modern where she is a member.
