Dimanche 20 mars 2016. Les Melges 20 ont terminé la saison 2015/2016 des Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series ce dimanche au terme de trois jours de régates et 8 manches courues. Un « évènement fantastique » selon Richard Davies (Section 16), vainqueur de ce 5e et dernier Acte devant Igor Rytov (Russian Bogatyrs) et Philippe Pizzichini (Out of Reach), respectivement 2e et 3e. Saluons la belle performance de Philippe Pizzichini, sociétaire du Yacht Club de Monaco, venu remplacer au pied levé son ami Guido Miani. En constante progression tout au long du week-end, il n’a rien lâché et s’est même octroyé la victoire de la dernière manche.

Organisées une fois par mois entre octobre et mars, ces compétitions, dédiées aux monotypes, ont pour objectif de permettre à des équipages internationaux d’établir leur base hivernale à Monaco dans le but de préparer les grands rendez-vous à venir. Valentin Zavadnikov, initiateur du concept a de quoi être fier « à chaque édition, nous nous améliorons. Pour ce grand final, toutes les conditions étaient réunies : une météo exceptionnelle et huit manches disputées. La prochaine saison s’annonce encore mieux ».

Cette troisième édition est d’ores et déjà un succès avec 23 manches courues en cinq mois et pas moins de 36 équipages inscrits. Alexander Ezhkov (Pirogovo) s’empare de la tête du classement général final devant Igor Rytov (Russian Bogatyrs) suivi de Vladimir Prosikhin (Nika) membre du Yacht Club de Monaco.

Ce week-end a également été l’occasion pour les huit Smeralda 888 présents de régater dans le cadre de leur Challenge de Printemps. Avec sept victoires sur les neuf manches courues, l’équipage de Timofey Sukhotin (Podeba) remporte cette compétition avec neuf points d’avance devant Roberto Tamburelli (Forrest Gump). Adalberto Miani (Botta Dritta) monte quant à lui sur la troisième marche du podium.

for 3rd Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series

Suspense is over

Sunday 20th March 2016. The Melges 20s ended the 2015/2016 season of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series Sunday at the end of three days of competition and eight races. “A fantastic event,” according to Richard Davies (Section 16), winner of the fifth and final Act ahead of Igor Rytov (Russian Bogatyrs) and Philippe Pizzichini (Out of Reach), 2nd and 3rd respectively. Let’s pay tribute to Philippe Pizzichini’s fine performance, the society member who jumped in to replace at last minute his friend Guido Miani. In a constant progression all weekend long, he gave nothing away and managed to win the last leg of the race.

Organised once a month from October to March these regattas give international teams an opportunity to establish a winter training base in Monaco to prepare for the summer’s big meetings. Valentin Zavadnikov, who instigated the concept has reason to be proud: “Every edition we improve. For this great finale, all the conditions were right: exceptional weather and eight races. The next season promises to be even better”.

With 23 races over five months and 36 teams competing, the third edition has already been a success. Overall winner of the season was Alexander Ezhkov (Pirogovo) who topped the leader-board ahead of Igor Rytov (Russian Bogatyrs) with Yacht Club de Monaco member Vladimir Prosikhin (Nika) in 3rd.

This weekend also had eight Smeralda 888s competing in their Spring Challenge. After winning seven of the nine races held this weekend, the team led by Timofey Sukhotin (Podeba) lifted the trophy, nine points clear of Roberto Tamburelli (Forrest Gump) in 2nd, and the doyen of the fleet, Adalberto Miani (Botta Dritta) in 3rd.
