China Music captured the focus at this year’s MIDEM, the world’s largest music industry conference. Apart from the StarNest Showcase, where 3 independent bands from China presented their original material. Shanghai Conservatory of Music (SHCM) also received the much attention during MIDEM.
SHCM was not only able to find partners for a new European record label deal for international distribution and tour promotion - an American pop & hip -hop music educational curriculum at the Conservatory as well as exchange programs with several South American countries were also finalized.
A highlight of the conference was the appearance of world -renowned Pipa Artist, Ms. Shu Yin, whose masterly playing technique of the 4 stringed classical Chinese lute is unmatched.
Her performance of two emblematic pieces written exclusively for the Pipa was presented by Ju Wang, Executive Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association, and by Han Bin, Vice Secretary-General of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Mr. Han also introduced the latest music vinyl production from SHCM： - “Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Liang Zhu Violin Concerto”, - The Chinese Art Songs Album “Everlasting Friendship” - The Shanghai Conservatory of Music Orchestral Performance of “Ein Heldenleben” by Richard Strauss
Music from China in all its diversity is finally stepping out of the shadows and is recognized by the industry and the audiences world-wide. __
SHCM PRODUCTION is a label founded on December 25th 2017 by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. It was created to distribute the compositions written by SHCM teachers and students and to make precious recordings from the Conservatory’s master alumnus available to the public. The Shanghai Conservatory of Music is the first music institution owning an international record label in China.
