BAFTA-winning director, producer, screenwriter and BAFTA Fellow, Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, Wolf of Wall Street, The Irishman) will deliver BAFTA’s prestigious film lecture and share insights into his illustrious career.

With a career spanning over 50 years, Scorsese has marked himself as one of the most influential filmmakers working today. He has received 15 BAFTA nominations, directing critically acclaimed films including Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ, Goodfellas, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, and Hugo. Scorsese has directed numerous documentaries including No Direction Home: Bob Dylan and George Harrison: Living in the Material World. This month Scorsese’s highly anticipated feature film, The Irishman, starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci will screen at London Film Festival, followed by a theatrical release by Netflix.

The David Lean Lecture continues the legacy of the great director David Lean, one of the founders of the British Film Academy (as it was then known) in 1947. The lecture aims to inspire and inform by providing an insight into the experiences and creative achievements of some of the world’s most compelling filmmakers. Previous speakers include David O Russell, Spike Lee, and Paul Greengrass.

The Lecture is generously supported by The David Lean Foundation, which continues to support and encourage excellence in British filmmaking.
