UBS Optimus Foundation Europe, UBS Monaco and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation join forces to accelerate climate action and strengthen marine mammals’ protection in the Mediterranean
On September 30th, in the presence of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, UBS Optimus Foundation Europe, UBS Monaco and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation signed a partnership agreement in order to increase climate mitigation and adaptation thanks to the protection of coastal and marine ecosystems in the Pelagos Sanctuary.
Projects supported through this alliance will be dedicated to promoting the reinforcement of marine protected areas and no take zones as well as the restoration of coastal ecosystems. A special attention will be given to the protection of marine mammals, conservation of biodiversity and resilience to climate change, but also to the engagement of coastal communities.
This symposium, supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and organised by the Universidad Nacional Pedro Ruíz Gallo, brought together nearly 300 researchers from all over the world to discuss the latest research findings on ocean acidification.

Fourteen projects from various areas of action – forest conservation, marine protection, biodiversity preservation, coastal resilience, water resources management, climate change – were presented and examined during this working session, organized in a hybrid format.
Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, WWF and the Prince Albert II of Monaco raise 340 000 euros in favor of Monk Seal preservation
On Friday, September 30, seventy philanthropists were invited by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou at an exclusive dinner at the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation’s conference hall on the Port of Monaco in the presence of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and Marco Lambertini, Director General of WWF international.
The collective donations of 170,000 euro were matched by the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation and passed on equally to the Foundation of Prince Albert II and the WWF to help in the efforts to save the Mediterranean monk seal from extinction.
The "Humanity & Wildlife: crossed destinies, shared territories" exhibition presented in Madrid from 20 September to 23 October 2022
Now open to the public until 23 October, the exhibition, set up in the heart of Madrid, aims to raise awareness among both the population and public institutions about the impact of human activities on our environment and promoting a more balanced development. The issue of human-wildlife cohabitation requires us to think more responsibly about the future of humanity.
It was inaugurated on 28 September in the Retiro Park in Madrid by Carol Portabella, President of the Spanish branch of the Foundation, in the presence of the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.
The 2nd edition of Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina took place on September 25th and 26th at the Monaco Yacht Club. This event, organised by Monaco Marina Management and supported by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, is a networking platform that brings together key players around the development of eco-responsible, efficient, attractive and user-friendly marinas.
On 4th September, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco attended the "24 hours for the Ocean" Festival organised by the non-profit organisation Time for the Ocean, at the Franciscaines in Deauville. This event invites the public to major events associating artists and scientists with environmental issues and drifts in the face of the climate emergency.
40th anniversary of the Mediterranean Water Institute and Regional Symposium "Our Mediterranean: water challenges and regional priorities for 2050
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, represented by Philippe Mondielli, Scientific Director, Léa Glâtre, Projects Officer, and Carol Portabella, President of the Spanish branch, took part in the 40th anniversary of the Mediterranean Water Institute (IME) and the regional symposium "Our Mediterranean: water challenges and regional priorities for 2050", which was held on 19 and 20 September at the headquarters of the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation, with the support of the Valencia City Council.
On Monday 19 September, the Human - Wildlife Initiative participated in the launch of the 15th International Otter Congress in Sospel, organised by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), from 19 to 23 September.
Opening of the 2022 call for projects of the Human - Wildlife Initiative
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and its partners, the National Council for the Protection of Nature, the Maritime Alps Chamber of Agriculture, the Maritime Alps Hunters' Federation and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Birds Protection League, launched a call for projects on 15 September 2022 to improve the relationship between human activities and wildlife in the southern PACA region. This initiative aims to identify and financially support field actors ready to carry out cohabitation projects at their scales.
