La plus grande flotte européenne jamais réunie depuis les années 90.
Avec 70 monotypes, le Yacht Club de Monaco va réunir la plus grande flotte européenne jamais réunie depuis les années 90, à l’occasion du Championnat d’Europe « Open » de J/24, organisé du 5 au 12 octobre 2013 ; 20 ans après une première édition en Principauté.
Reconnu par l’I.S.A.F, d’une longueur de 7,32 m pour une surface de voile de 24,50 m², le J/24 est le monotype (bateaux tous identiques) avec cabine, qui est le plus répandu au monde.
Ce championnat « Open » étant ouvert aux équipages venant du monde entier, on retrouvera notamment le Brésilien Mauricio Santa Cruz (Bruschetta), triple champion du monde, arrivé second au Championnat du monde 2013. Egalement, l’Anglais Ian Southworth (Il Riccio) quatrième des mondiaux, Mike Ingham (USA 5443), qui vient de gagner en juin dernier le championnat américain, l’Australien David Leslie, puis aussi l’Allemand Schade Frithjof, 8e au Championnat du monde 2012 ainsi que Pasquale di Fraia, Président de la classe italienne.
Pour l’occasion, le Yacht Club de Monaco s’est entouré des meilleurs spécialistes de la discipline : la Suédoise Marianne Schoke, Présidente du NJCA suédois et porte parole de la J/24 Class Europe ; également le Britannique Stuart Jardine, au palmarès impressionnant de 27 titres (nationaux et internationaux) entre 1950 et 2007, qui sera en charge de la jauge, avec son équipe, Le Comité de Course sera présidé par l’Anglais John Coveney et le jury international par l’Allemand Willii Gohl.

As per the I.S.A.F International Class, with a length of 7.32m for a sail area of 24.5m², the J/24 is the most popular one-design keel boat with a cabin in the world!
Among the first to register was the Brazilian Mauricio Santa Cruz (Bruschetta), second at the 2013 World Championship and past triple World Champion, then the British sailor Ian Southworth (Il Riccio) who arrived fourth at the Worlds. Also Mike Ingham (USA 5443) who won the American championship last June and finished second in the UK Nationals 2013.
As well as the Australian David Leslie, the German Schade Frithjof who was the eighth in the 2012 World Championships, and Pasquale di Fraia, the Italian JCA President.
For this great occasion, the Yacht Club de Monaco’s team gathers the best J/24 specialists including Swede Marianne Schoke, President of the Swedish NJCA and spokeswoman of the J/24 Class in Europe; the British sailor Stuart Jardine, who between 1950 and 2007 racked up a string of impressive titles, who will be in charge of the measurement team. Also the Race Committee will be chaired by the Englishman John Coveney and the International Jury led by the German Willii Gohl.
