Alexander the Great GCT Millionaire
Australian Edwina Alexander has become the first Global Champions Tour rider to win one million Euros in total prize money earned from the first event that took place in Wellington, USA in 2006. Competing on Cevo Socrates, Edwina placed second today in the 1.45m Prix Federation Equestre Principaute de Monaco today just behind winner French rider Kevin Staut who rode Major de Coquerie.
Edwina, having added 4,000 Euros to her pot today to reach the desired total and is very pleased to be the first rider to reach this Global Champions Tour milestone.
“I was so happy that I finished off the final earnings reaching the million mark with my horse Socrates. He has been such a big part of winning the total amount over the years. We have won two other classes together here in Monaco over the time. I thought that I hadn’t gone quite fast enough and that others would be quicker in the class leaving me lower down in the placings,” commented Edwina. “In fact, I am happy that I now don’t have to aim for this in the following events on the program this weekend.”
“It is a great show in Monaco and I am proud that I have won the million Euro mark here.” Edwina holds Monaco as a highlight of the year and will marry here in September. “Monaco has been a big part of the Global Champions Tour having been with the series since it’s inception.”
Edwina’s partner Jan Top, creator of the Global Champions Tour and owner of Stal Tops has been closely following the race to the million Euros mark.
French rider Phillip Rozier took third place in the one round Table A class against the clock and Edwina’s fellow Stal Tops rider Daniel Deusser (GER) went to fourth position with Cabreado S.E.
The world’s top ranked riders will continue to compete in the international classes on the Monaco Program of events over the next two days in preparation for the Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Monaco that will take place on Saturday 25th June at 18h00.
